When starting off in the Z9GT, the first thing you notice are its electric doors. All four open and close at the touch of a button, and then the driver’s seat slides back to ease access – all of which adds a bit of flamboyance to the start-up process.

Being an EV, the Z9GT sets off in a smooth, silent manner and at low speeds all the controls feel well calibrated – in particular the steering. At 5.2 metres long and two metres wide, the Z9GT might not seem the best fit for urban areas, but there’s rear-wheel steering here up to 8.5 degrees, and this gives the big Denza a supermini-like turning circle.

The Z9GT can also perform pivot turning, where the front wheels lock in place and the rears turn and steer, for occasions when incredibly tight manoeuvres are needed. There’s also a ‘crab-walk’ function, where the car will drive diagonally up to 8.5 degrees. We experienced these from behind the wheel and the Denza completed the manoeuvres as quickly as we could do them ourselves.

There’s also a self-parking feature that can be activated  through the car or even an app on your phone – although if you have to use all those features regularly, you might want to reconsider if a huge shooting brake is the right car for you.

Around town, the Z9GT doesn’t feel particularly unwieldy, although our car came with the optional digital wing mirrors, which work just about as well as any others we’ve tried, but still take time to get used to. Due to the swoopy shape of the Z9GT’s back end, visibility is poor through the rear view mirror. However you can flick the screen to the digital wing mirror, although unlike the one used in the Polestar 4, there’s no scope to pan across when indicating or adjustability of any sort.

Mysterious single-seater Aston Martin hypercar spotted testing https://engineicon.com/mysterious-single-seater-aston-martin-hypercar-spotted-testing/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 02:51:57 +0000 https://engineicon.com/mysterious-single-seater-aston-martin-hypercar-spotted-testing/

It seems like Adrian Newey has been keeping busy with several projects at Aston Martin and not just the AMR26 F1 car. A video circulating on social media suggests that Newey might have just created a single-seater Aston Martin hypercar derived from the Valkyrie AMR Pro.

This wild prototype was recently spotted testing at an airfield. The car looks like a cross between a Formula 1 car and a Valkyrie AMR Pro. In fact, the design is more akin to an Indycar.

It has a sharp nose section with F1-style suspension featuring exposed wishbones and inboard dampers. A single cockpit with the halo roll-over protection device and the engine intake positioned just above the driver’s head.

The prototype single-seater hypercar has a shrink-wrapped engine cover with a shark fin that extends to the massive rear spoiler. There are F1-esque bargeboards and floor. However, unlike a modern F1 car, it seems to be powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine.

McLaren will sell you a Le Mans hypercar with more power than the racecar https://engineicon.com/mclaren-will-sell-you-a-le-mans-hypercar-with-more-power-than-the-racecar/ Wed, 04 Mar 2026 23:49:44 +0000 https://engineicon.com/mclaren-will-sell-you-a-le-mans-hypercar-with-more-power-than-the-racecar/

Last year, McLaren announced ‘Project: Endurance’, a customer partnership programme, as part of which anyone with sufficiently deep pockets can own a 2027 McLaren Le Mans Hypercar.

McLaren is entering the World Endurance Championship with an LMDh-spec machine based on a Dallara chassis. It will be powered by a twin-turbo V6 hybrid restricted to 671 hp as per the regulations.

According to Which Car, the track toy sold to customers won’t be the same as the Le Mans racecar. It will be powered by the same 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. However, it won’t get hybrid assistance. With a peak output of 720 hp from the ICE alone, the customer car will have 49 hp more.

Project: Endurance is a 2-year track car programme that encompasses some of the world’s best racetracks. McLaren will provide support at track events each season, enabling customers to enjoy a track session on an arrive-and-drive basis. Each owner will receive driver coaching from a race professional, with an individual pit crew and race engineers.

McLaren says customers will also have full behind-the-scenes access to the upcoming McLaren Racing LMDh programme, key team personnel and drivers. Moreover, the customers will be at the very centre of the development programme for the McLaren Le Mans Hypercar.

Bugatti Chiron with 109k miles; Highest-mileage Bugatti hypercar? https://engineicon.com/bugatti-chiron-with-109k-miles-highest-mileage-bugatti-hypercar/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 17:49:19 +0000 https://engineicon.com/bugatti-chiron-with-109k-miles-highest-mileage-bugatti-hypercar/

A Bugatti is not a car you drive to work in daily or run errands in. Hypercars like the Chiron are purchased as an investment and spend most of their time tucked away in a garage. However, there are a few exceptions.

This Bugatti Chiron has more miles on it than a shopping trolley. With an odometer that reads 175,797 kilometers, or 109,235 miles, this could be the highest-mileage Bugatti on the planet.

Bugatti Chiron highest mileage prototype-2

Who in their right mind would rack up over 100k miles in their Bugatti, you might ask? Well, the answer to it is quite simple and not that surprising.

It is a development car owned by Bugatti. This is the car used by the company to test and validate everything from mechanical components to electronics and other minor bits and bobs.

It’s also a testament to how reliable the Chiron can be if it is maintained properly. Just look at it. The Chiron prototype looks as good as any customer car.
