Tens of thousands of Tesla Superchargers are now open to non-Tesla EVs in the United States, which can make life a lot easier for everybody, especially on long road trips. However, Superchargers were designed for Teslas, which have the charge port on the left rear of the car, whereas other EVs might have it somewhere else. 

It’s not the end of the world, but some EV owners are forced to double park at Superchargers because Tesla’s third-generation stalls have a pretty short cable designed exclusively for Teslas. 

To fix the issue, a company called Hansshow is selling an extension cable that also doubles as a DC fast charging adapter, promising to make life a lot easier for some EV owners. The second-generation version of the product was put to the test by Tom Moloughney, charging expert and InsideEVs contributor.

Tom put the first-generation product through its paces and found that it was a safety disaster waiting to happen,. He also tested the prototype for the second-gen model, which fixed all of its predecessor’s problems. Recently, he got his hands on the final version, but after a testing session that was unexpectedly cut short, he discovered that the prototype worked better than the finished product.

The cable is available in 5-foot and 8-foot lengths, and is rated for 1,000 volts and 350 amps. To really put it to the test, Tom wanted to keep the 8-foot version under stress for an hour straight, charging his Rivian R1S and Ford F-150 Lightning from a low state of charge, where both EVs ask for 500 amps at the beginning of the session. 

However, that plan didn’t work out. The Rivian stopped charging after 17 minutes while using the extension cable, despite the surface temperature of the cable never going over 100 degrees. A second attempt did not work, either.

The cable was plugged into the F-150 Lightning, and after eight minutes of charging, the session automatically stopped again.



Moving over to another Tesla Supercharger stall didn’t help, either. Weirdly enough, the pre-production version of the cable, which looks exactly like the finished product, worked flawlessly in Tom’s charging sessions multiple times. It’s not clear why this latest product has missed the mark.

What’s more, there’s the price to consider, with the 8-foot version retailing for $729. That’s a lot of money, especially if you can’t rely on it. Additionally, owners who use something like this need to know that they’re doing it at their own risk, as all EV makers advise against using extension cables or charging adapters that are not manufacturer-approved. In case something goes wrong during a charging session, your warranty will likely not cover damages.

If you’re the type who daily drives their off-road rig, you’re probably already familiar with BFGoodrich’s Trail-Terrain T/A. Slotting beneath the KO2/KO3, it’s a bit of a ‘tweener, offering respectable off-road performance blended with the milder manners of a highway-spec, all-weather tire. While it may not appeal to die-hard enthusiasts who only spend time on-pavement to get to the next trail, its three-peak snow rating and tighter, more pavement-friendly tread will appeal to those who tend to accumulate most of their mileage on improved roads. And now, there’s a new one.

To make its lineage clear, BFG kept the old tire’s nomenclature. It’s now simply the BFGoodrich’s Trail-Terrain T/A+. BFG says it has improved three key characteristics of the old T/A with the overhaul: all-weather traction, longevity, and fuel efficiency.

On the all-weather front, BFG was specifically interested in improving the Trail-Terrain’s wet-weather traction. Since it’s an all-terrain (some refer to this segment as “on-road all-terrain”), it lacks the well-defined circumferential grooves that help street tires effectively shed water between contact patches. They still fully encircle the tire; they just zig-zag more than what you’d see on a highway-oriented all-season. This makes them better off-road, helping them bite into dirt and grab onto rocks, at the expense of some wet-weather performance.

Rather than giving up the off-road advantages, BFG focused instead on the Trail-Terrain T/A+’s compound. By adding more silica, BFG’s engineers made the tire’s contact patch itself grippier. The result is a 10% improvement in wet grip, per BFG’s marketing literature.

As it turns out, all of the Trail-Terrain T/A+’s improvements over its predecessor stem from that new formulation. Not only is it better in the wet, but it’s more durable. BFG says the new compound will last longer than the previous Trail-Terrain, offering up to 25% better wear performance. This is on a tire with a 660 treadwear rating, mind you. BFG also says the new compound reduces rolling resistance by 5%, which should improve fuel economy.

Just to put a little bow on it, the + appears as though it will retail for the same price as the outgoing Trail-Terrain T/A. A few listings have already appeared on some retail channels alongside the existing Trail-Terrain; prices appear to range from approximately $200 for smaller sizes up to upwards of $300 for larger fitments. It will be offered in sizes from 16″ up to 22″ when it officially hits shelves in June. Additional sizes (including a 15″ option) will enter the market starting in August.

The Beijing Auto Show hosted the debut of a new vehicle that might make some luxury car owners look twice at their bank accounts. BYD revealed its latest flagship sedan: the Seal 08. This car does look sleek, but more importantly, it carries technology that promises to solve the biggest headaches people have with EVs – how far you can drive and how long you have to sit at a charging station.

The secret of this sedan is the second-generation LFP Blade Battery. BYD says the new battery allows the car to travel over 620 miles on a single charge based on Chinese testing standards. While real-world driving in the United States or Europe will result in a lower number, it still beats most electric cars currently on the road.

If the range does not impress you, the charging speed might. The Seal 08 uses an 800V system that supports “megawatt-level” flash charging – you can add 249 miles of range in just five minutes. If your battery is sitting at 10%, you can get it up to 70% in the same five-minute window. Even if you live in a place where it gets freezing cold, the car performs well. At -22°F, it can charge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes. Most people take longer than that to defrost their windshields.

The Seal 08 is a battery on wheels and it has plenty of muscle too. The top-end version comes with all-wheel drive and two motors. Together, they produce 510 kW – that’s 684 horsepower. The front motor provides 190 kW, while the rear motor does the heavy lifting with 320 kW. If you do not need that much power, BYD offers rear-wheel-drive versions with either 255 kW or 320 kW. No matter which one you pick, each version can reach a top speed of 149 mph.

This is a big vehicle – it measures 202.8 inches in length. To help with parking such a long car, BYD included rear-wheel steering. This feature lets the back wheels turn slightly, making the car much easier to turn in tight spots. The wheelbase is 119.3 inches – this usually means there is a lot of legroom for people sitting in the back. The car apparently weighs 4,497 lb, which is surprising for an EV this big and packed with heavy batteries.

BYD also put a lot of work into how the car rides and drives. It gets the DiSus-A system, which is an intelligent body control setup using air suspension. This helps the car stay level and comfortable even on bumpy roads. For safety and self-driving features, the Seal 08 has a LiDAR sensor sitting on the roof. This sensor acts like a set of eyes for the “God’s Eye” driving system, helping the car see obstacles and navigate traffic more safely than a human might on a tired Monday morning.

BYD has not given a final price for the Seal 08, but we believe it will sell for between RMB 300,000 and 350,000. That is roughly £30,600 to {{$49,000}. The Seal 08 is part of a new “Ocean 8” series from BYD. It was revealed alongside a sister vehicle, the Sealion 08 SUV. BYD plans to launch the sedan in China during the second quarter of 2026. While the company has not officially said it will sell the car in the United States or Europe yet, they are moving quickly into international markets.
