The timeline for the next-generation Tesla Roadster keeps stretching further and further into the future. A fresh report indicates that the American electric vehicle manufacturer shifted its planned public demonstration from the spring to August or even later. The decision is yet another adjustment to a schedule that has repeatedly changed since the company first displayed the vehicle concept nearly a decade ago.

According to individuals familiar with the situation, the upcoming exhibition will eventually take place in Texas. The main objective of this event is to highlight the specialized technology that Tesla is developing alongside SpaceX. The company claims this system will use cold gas thrusters to give the high-performance car unprecedented acceleration and the unique ability to briefly leave the ground… That’s apparently not a joke.

Skepticism surrounding these production timelines is not new for the brand. CEO Elon Musk introduced the prototype back in November 2017 and promised that manufacturing would officially begin in 2020. The delays piled up quickly over the past few months. During a shareholder presentation in late 2025, the company promised April 1, 2026, as the reveal date, but pushed volume production out to 2027 or 2028. When April passed without an event, statements on social media suggested late May or early June. Eventually, during the first-quarter earnings call for 2026, the guidance changed once again to a vague estimate of “a month or so.”

Internal data reveals that engineering teams completed a private demonstration of the rocket-derived hardware for management in late April. The internal trial helps clarify why the company felt compelled to postpone the public showcase, as the complex systems needed more testing. The project has an internal designation “A71” and is a collaborative effort between engineers from both the automotive firm and the aerospace company.

The plans apparently involve two distinct variants of the sports car. The premium version will sport the SpaceX package, which replaces the rear passenger seats with approximately 10 cold-air rocket thrusters. This is supposed to improve cornering agility, braking efficiency, and acceleration. Company documentation asserts the setup will achieve a 0 to 60 mph sprint time of just 1.1 seconds. A standard, scaled-down version without the rocket components will be the entry-level model.

The prolonged waiting shows how much the competitive landscape for electric cars has transformed. Tesla Roadster might be stuck in the prototype phase, but global competitors successfully launched and delivered high-performance EVs to customers worldwide. Brands like Rimac, Lotus, Yangwang, and Xiaomi ship advanced electric cars that compete in the high-end performance sector, reducing the technical uniqueness that the American automaker originally promised.

Every once in a while, Lamborghini debuts a special edition model. Last year, it was the Fenomeno, and this year, there will be something similar. Well-placed sources had told us that the Lamborghini Fenomeno Roadster will be unveiled in May. The car will be showcased at Lamborghini Arena 2026, which will be held at Imola on May 9-10.

Traditionally, Lamborghini has offered roadster versions of its few-offs. Legendary models like the Reventon and Veneno got open-top versions, and more recently, the Centenario and Sian FKP 37.

The Fenomeno Roadster is likely to feature a similar exterior to the coupe. The jaw-dropping two-tone design is exactly what a Lamborghini should look like, while the interior will be carried over from the Revuelto.

The Fenomeno is based on the Revuelto. The Roadster will be powered by the same V12 hybrid tuned to produce 1065 hp and 793 lb-ft of torque. It should make it the most powerful roadster Lamborghini has ever built.

Like the Revuelto, the Fenomeno also boasts a larger 7 kWh lithium-ion battery, which gives it an electric range of 12.4 miles.

Lamborghini is building only 29 examples of the coupe with a price tag of $3.5 million each. We expect the roadster version to be even more exclusive.

Lamborghini also plans to showcase another special edition model, the Revuelto Miura Edition, in August this year.

The Tesla Roadster has been coming “soon” for so long that when Elon Musk announced an April 1st reveal date, the internet couldn’t decide if it was a joke or not. Given the car was first unveiled way back in 2017 with a price tag sitting around $200,000 and promises that have been delayed ever since, skepticism is fair. But a patent quietly published recently, discovered by a patent analyst on X, suggests things might actually be moving. And what it describes is genuinely unlike anything Tesla, or really anyone, has put in a production car before.

One Frame to Rule Them All

Traditional car seats are an assembly of dozens of components, with metal brackets, recliner mechanisms, headrest stalks, and bolster frames, all bolted or riveted together. Tesla’s new patent throws that entire approach out. The design is built around a single continuous composite frame where the seat base, backrest, headrest, and bolsters are all thermoformed as one unified piece. Tesla is calling it a monolithic structure, and it’s the same philosophy behind their giga-casting push – fewer parts, fewer failure points, less weight, cleaner manufacturing. It’s closer in concept to the carbon tub chassis you’d find at the core of a hypercar like a McLaren than anything you’d expect to find under a seat cushion.

Smarter Than It Looks

The engineering goes well beyond just making it one piece. The frame is divided into up to six distinct stiffness zones, each tuned differently for ergonomics and structural support. Rather than a mechanical recliner, a built-in flexible hinge made from fiber composite material handles movement. Four pairs of actuators give the seat six degrees of freedom, and an ECU manages all of it through software, meaning the seat is essentially programmable. Ventilation channels are molded directly in. Airbag deployment paths are shaped into the bolsters. Even the soft trim attaches without separate hardware. All this goes to say that Tesla’s given this seat more thought than just bolting in a plastic poolside chair, a thought we’re sure has entered the minds of many reading this.

A Seat That Could Change How Cars Are Built

The implications go beyond just the Roadster. If this manufacturing approach scales, it could meaningfully simplify seat production across Tesla’s entire lineup, cutting assembly complexity and weight in one move. For now though, it’s one more sign that the Roadster is closer to reality than it has ever been. And if the April 1st reveal turns out to be no joke at all, this might just be the seat that takes you from 0 to 60 in under two seconds.
